At Peak Alternative, we champion safe and effective alternatives to conventional power choices that save you money, reduce environmental impact and deliver dynamic performance. We advocate a sustainable investment for a sustainable future.
Water Quality
Did you know that the used oil from one oil change can contaminate 1 million gallons of fresh water - a years' supply for 50 people.
If I don`t recycle my waste oil where does it go?
On average, about four million people reuse motor oil as a lubricant for other equipment or take it to a recycling facility.
Waste oil is a major source of oil contamination of waterways and can result in pollution of drinking water sources nationwide. Half the water used in the U. S. for drinking purposes comes from groundwater. Groundwater lies beneath the land surface and becomes contaminated when storm water comes in contact with oils, heavy metals, and solvents.
Recycling your used motor oil keeps it out of our rivers, lakes, streams and even the ground water. In many cases, that means keeping it out of our drinking water, off our beaches, and away from wildlife.
Air Quality
Eliminating the concept of waste is just one step in the larger of scheme of what we offer at Peak Alternative. Our burner technology allows consumers to choose between a wide variety of fuel sources including vegetable oil, waste vegetable oil and Biofuels. Used vegetable oil and Biofuels have demonstrated significant environmental benefits that help to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions contributing to harmful greenhouses gases and are in compliance with the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments.
Foreign Oil and our Economy
If all the oil from American do-it-yourself oil changers were recycled, it would be enough motor oil for more than 50 million cars a year. Imagine how much foreign oil that would eliminate. One gallon of used motor oil provides the same 2.5 quarts of lubricating oil as 42 gallons of crude oil. In fact, re-refining used oil takes from 50 to 85 percent less energy than refining crude oil.
Biofuels are better for the environment because they are made from renewable resources and have lower emissions compared to fuels such as petroleum diesel. They are less toxic than table salt and biodegrade as fast as sugar. Since they are made in the USA from renewable resources such as soybeans, their use decreases our dependence on foreign oil and contributes to our own economy.
